VDL Groep has committed much time and energy into its bus companies since the takeover of DAF Bus International in 1993 and Berkhof Jonckheere Groep in 1998. Products have undergone significant improvements, both in terms of quality and design. A more efficient organisation and tight cost controls have strongly boosted the bus division’s market position since 2001.

VDL therefore has full confidence in the future of its bus division as is reflected by the name changes introduced in 2003. All the bus companies now officially feature VDL in their name. VDL was added to emphasize the position of the bus activities within and to create added unity in presentation with the bus sector.

Strength through cooperation

Following the takeover of the BOVA coachmaking plant in August 2003, VDL Groep is the only bus maker in the Netherlands. VDL Bus Groep was established to strengthen the market profiling of the VDL bus companies. Intercompany cooperation will lead to added synergy through intensive cooperation in the areas of development, purchasing, production, marketing and sales. The bus companies of the VDL Bus Groep are specialised in building chassis, coaches, public transport buses, mini & midi busses. The group comprises the following companies: VDL Bus International, VDL Berkhof Valkenswaard, VDL Berkhof Heerenveen, VDL Jonckheere, VDL Kusters and VDL Bova.
